This is what it's like when our kiddos get sick (Sophia is fine today)

Here is a link to a blog post, from a mom like me, about her daughter getting a cold. Her experience with Aurora being sick is very similar. Only slightly different than mine with Sophia. Two differences are: 1. While Sophie's cough reflex is weaker than a normal child....but she has a decent couph for her condition, so she doesn't have a shaker vest (the reason we want them to cough btw.....is so they don't get pneumonia) :-( 2. Sophie wretches and vomits almost constantly when she's sick, and that's what we primarily use our suction machine for. Although we will use it a few times a day for "sicky" secretions as well. I recently learned how to do the up the nose down the throat deep catheter suction :-( Which is something no parent should ever have to do to their child bc it's torture :-(

Anyways this mom describes the severity of the common cold to our kiddos, in a way that I can completely relate to. By sharing this link I hope to spread awareness. I hope anyone who reads this will be extra careful if they are around special needs children, or parents. I know before I had Sophia, I had no idea what a cold could do to a special needs child.

Aurora has a pretty bad case of pneumonia as we speak :-( Mom is quite nervous, a feeling I relate to well. Last time Sophia was sick....overwhelmed.....I asked Jason to cover, and I ran outside crying. I lay on the sidewalk and looked up at the sky. I cried and prayed. I'm not trying to be dramatic, truly. Just trying to paint a picture of how much we love these kiddos... and how we hate to see them suffer. Please say an extra prayer for Aurora.
