G tube fell out.......again.......

This is how we left when we went out last night...so pretty.....so happy......

And this is how we came home... :-(

The balloon, that is supposed to hold her feeding tube in her stomach, busted... again :-( Three emergency room visits now and one unnecessary surgery, that can all be attributed to that darn balloon breaking :-(

We were away from home and I told Jason I was going to go to the car to feed the baby. That's when I noticed that her G-tube was laying in her car seat! I forced it back in as well as I could, it had already begun to heal over. We head for the emergency room.

She's screaming....I'm trying desperately to hold it in....remembering the last time it healed over. How she had to have surgery to re open it and ended up with cellulitus :-( Meanwhile Max keeps yelling at me to stop hurting Sophie :-(

We rushed to the emergency room and I wasted no time getting registered.  I sort of went Mama Bear and said that they had to give me a bed right now and help me hold her site open! :-) "No, we can register later" I demanded ;-) They were very nice and prompt ;-)

Once they were holding her site open I took max out of the triage room....worried that this was all very traumatizing for him. I called the only people I knew in Cedar City, my ex- husband and his wife :-) Mari rescued Max and took him to their house, fed him dinner and played with him :-) I was so relieved bc Michael and Sarah were there, I knew he'd feel comfortable.

Meanwhile at the emergency room, they placed a catheter to hold the site open. Why they don't stock G tubes in the ER is beyond me. We headed to another hospital in St. George to get her NG (up the nose, down the throat) tube placed.

On the way I thought....my daughter is hungry and needs meds . Knowing the lengthy process of the emergency room... and that we're just going to end up taking an ambulance the pediatric unit anyways, I decided to break the rules and bypass the whole ER! I just showed up at the NICU/Pediatrics campus and asked them to help me. They did and we were home before midnight thank goodness :-)

I also have to add, that her amazing pediatrician, spent yet another Friday night troubleshooting on the phone with me :-)

So we were able to come home and feed her last night, although not without trouble. That nose tube gags her, then she throws up, but it's precarious to suction because I might pull the tube out.

This morning I knew her pediatrician was right (always is ;-). Sophia's not going to be able to do this all weekend. I'm going to have to replace it myself.

Somehow I've avoided it for 7 months.........but today.......I get to try to put the new G-tube in myself. Nothing like on the job training! Jason's gone to get it.

Although I've never done this before, there are lots of moms that do it regularly, and I do understand how. I'm going to be brave for my daughter because she hates this nose tube :-(
